The sin of homosexuality

Topic

1. Introduction:

A. Lot in Sodom Genesis 13:11-13; 18:20,21; 19:1-7-11,24,25,28

B. God s word will be our final authority in this matter.

2. What the Bible says about homosexuality

A. Homosexuality is condemned in the Old Testament

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.
Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your own nation or any stranger who dwells among you (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled), lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you. For whoever commits any of these abominations, the persons who commit them shall be cut off from among their people.
Therefore you shall keep My ordinance, so that you do not commit any of these abominable customs which were committed before you, and that you do not defile yourselves by them: I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 18:22-30

If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:13

B. It is equally condemned in the New Testament

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

1. Homosexual (effeminate KJV):

a. 3120 ??????? {mal-ak-os } of uncert. aff.; soft, i.e. fine (clothing); fig. a catamite: effeminate, soft.[1]

b. Used of the one who plays the passive role in the homosexual behavior

2. Sodomites (Abusers of themselves with mankind KJV)

a. 733 ???????????? { ar-sen-ok-oy -tace} from 730 and 2845;

1) one who lies with a male as with a female, sodomite, homosexual[2]

b. Used of those who play the dominant role in the homosexual behavior

knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10 for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, 1 Timothy 1:9,10

1. Sodomites (Abusers of themselves with mankind KJV)

a. 733 ???????????? { ar-sen-ok-oy -tace} from 730 and 2845;

1) one who lies with a male as with a female, sodomite, homosexual[3]

b. Used of those who play the dominant role in the homosexual behavior

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. Romans 1:24-27

2. Considering common arguments posited by homosexuals

A. God made me this way/I was born this way (Homosexual)

1. I have here 9 quotes from those not at all hostile to the Homosexual movement all denying that Homosexuality is genetic. In fact, the most noted authority in this type of research says The genetic theory of homosexuality has been generally discarded today (Masters, Johnson, Kolodny, Human Sexuality, second edition, pp.411,412)

2. But what does God say?

For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; Romans 1:26-29

3. That which is against nature :

a. 5449. ????? " phusis, foo -sis; from 5453; growth (by germination or expansion), i.e. (by impl.) natural production (lineal descent); by extens. a genus or sort; fig. native disposition, constitution or usage: ([man-]) kind, nature ([-al]).[4]

b. phusis (5449), from phuo, to bring forth, produce, signifies (a) the nature (i.e., the natural powers or constitution) of a person or thing, Eph. 2:3; Jas. 3:7 ( kind ); 2 Pet. 1:4; (b) origin, birth, Rom. 2:27, one who by birth is a Gentile, uncircumcised, in contrast to one who, though circumcised, has become spiritually uncircumcised by his iniquity; Gal. 2:15; (c) the regular law or order of nature, Rom. 1:26, against nature (para, against ); 2:14, adverbially, by nature [5]

c. NATURE native, inborn, or inherent character; innate disposition. In the NKJV the word nature is found only in the New Testament. In almost every occurrence it is a translation of a Greek word meaning inherent nature, which describes the process of growth or normal characteristics. Thus, normal sexuality between men and women is the natural use (Rom. 1:26 27); perverse sexuality is against nature (Rom. 1:26).[6]

4. Change the natural use Leaving the natural use

a. phusikos (??????? (5446)) originally signifying produced by nature, inborn, from phusis, nature (see below), cp. Eng., physical, physics, etc., denotes (a) according to nature, Rom. 1:26, 27 [7]

B. It is just private behavior between two consenting adults

1. This is a lie.

a. Ellen wasn t satisfied to be In the closet (private) but felt a need to expose her homosexuality on Oprah etc., there are magazines, movies, songs, books, and TV shows which preach the virtues of homosexuality.

b. There are powerful political lobbies pushing homosexually favorable legislation in every state in the union. Including special political protection and rights not afforded to Normal or Straight people.

c. There are programs introduced into our schools to teach our children to Respect homosexuality and even to Experiment with it

d. Millions of our tax dollars are spent paying for the consequences of Homosexual behavior.

2. Two adults might consent together to violate God s laws in any number of ways

a. For instance Ananias and Sapphira Acts 5:1-11 Note that they Agreed together and what they were doing was really quite innocent by current standards they sold property and were giving it to the church, and merely wished to appear better than they really were.

C. It is merely an alternative lifestyle

1. An alternative is a choice, and when God condemns a certain choice, it is no longer an alternative for God fearing people.

2. Jesus offered Marriage or an alternative Celibacy (Mt.19:12)

D. But we just love each other, surely you don t believe love is wrong. Besides, Jesus said that we are to love each other in Matthew 22:37-40

1. To the homosexual, love always carries a sexual connotation. If Love your Neighbor as yourself means that sexual relations with your neighbor are approved of by God, what of these verses.

a. But I say unto you, Love your enemies Matthew 5:44

b. That they may teach the young women to love their children Titus 2:4

c. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. 1 Peter 2:17

2. The chief priority in our life is to Love the Lord with our all.

a. If you Love me Keep my commandments

b. This is the love of God, that we should keep his commandments 1 Jn.5:3

E. The Bible tells you not to judge (Matt.7:1)

1. Yet Jesus also commands:

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. Jn.7:24

2. Often, what is meant by this is Don t criticize my behavior and is the first cry we hear from those who are promoting an ungodly behavior.

3. Jesus was extremely critical of sinful behavior Mt.23:13-39

4. We are forbidden to judge motives or intentions (i.e. I know why she did that ), but are required to judge actions and words

a. By their fruits ye shall know them Mt.7:20

3. There is Hope for the homosexual

A. Much of the movement thrives on the lie that they cannot change. This is not true. Many have, any can.

1. Consider Paul s words:

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

B. You must obey the word s of Peter in Acts 2:38 Repent and be Baptized.

4. What about our attitude toward the Homosexual?

A. God loves them so that he sent Jesus to die for their sin of homosexuality Jn.3:16

B. We must be concerned for their souls, teach them the gospel of Jesus Christ, and call them to repentance.

C. We must not allow their propaganda to unchallenged.

D. Use your hatred of the sin of homosexuality to teach you of God s disgust for every sin you commit!
